turns out, a fully featured GPU accelerated layout and render engine is a harder problem to solve than going to the moon. (well, more like orbital mechanics)

yeah sure web rendering technology is immensely powerful and super sophisticated while also being incredibly easy to use. so why do so many websites look the same?

two reasons:

  1. css frameworks (and user familiarity)
  2. turns out fancy render engines don't change what just looks good
